Living Shelf is a local-first reading companion. Your library, reading sessions, notes and quotes are stored on your iPhone. We have no accounts, show no ads and don't sell or share personal data.
Living Shelf does not sync your library to our servers. Deleting the app removes this data. If you use iCloud or device backups, your iPhone may include app data in those backups under Apple's terms.
To find books and covers, Living Shelf sends your search terms to public book catalogs: Google Books and Open Library (Internet Archive). A search term can be text you type, an ISBN you scan, or words recognized from a book cover. These requests contain no account or personal identifier; like any web request they include your IP address. Results and cover images are cached on your device.
The camera is used only while you scan a barcode, recognize a cover or capture a quote from a page. Photos you pick are used as a cover or for capturing a quote. Text recognition runs on your device with Apple's Vision framework; images are not uploaded or stored by us.
We use Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics (Google) to understand which features help people read and to fix crashes. These collect app-usage events (for example "reading session completed" with its length and page count, or "theme changed"), device model, iOS version and an app-instance identifier. They never include book titles, authors, your notes, quotes, search text or imported files. This data is not used for advertising or tracking. Firebase Remote Config is used to adjust features and limits without an app update.
Living Shelf Pro subscriptions and the lifetime purchase are processed by Apple through your Apple Account. RevenueCat, our purchase-infrastructure provider, processes an app-generated identifier and purchase receipt information to validate access. We never see your payment details. See RevenueCat's privacy policy.
Living Shelf contains no advertising and performs no cross-app tracking. We do not request App Tracking Transparency permission because we do not track you.
Living Shelf does not ask for location, contacts or microphone access.
When you share a monthly Wrapped card or a quote, the image is created on your device and sent only where you choose through the iOS share sheet.
Living Shelf is a general-audience app and is not directed at children under 13.
